In a time when many young people and professionals are searching for practical ways to earn extra income, skills like soap making are gaining renewed attention. The global soap market was valued at over $34 billion and continues to grow rapidly, driven by rising demand for hygiene products and natural handmade alternatives. In fact, small-scale soap production has become an attractive micro-enterprise because it requires relatively low startup costs and can be done from home while generating steady income streams.
To empower participants with hands-on entrepreneurial skills, American Corner Agbogba hosted a Practical Soap Making Training for Young Entrepreneurs, bringing together students, aspiring entrepreneurs, and workers interested in learning new ways to diversify their income.
The interactive session focused on providing participants with practical knowledge and real-world techniques needed to begin producing soap products that can be sold in local markets or developed into small businesses.

The training was facilitated by Faizat Debbie Akinyemi, Formulator and Director of Vickeiko Craft Formulation, who guided participants through the fundamentals of soap formulation and production.
Drawing from her experience in product formulation, she introduced participants to the science behind soap making, the ingredients involved, and how different formulations can be used to create unique and marketable products.
Participants learned:
- The basic ingredients and formulation process for soap production
- Safety and hygiene practices when producing soap products
- How to develop quality soaps that appeal to customers
- Ideas for turning soap making into a small business
The hands-on approach allowed participants to see the production process step by step, making the session both engaging and practical.
A Skill That Opens Doors to Entrepreneurship
Beyond the technical skills, the session emphasized the entrepreneurial opportunities within small-scale manufacturing. Soap production can be started with relatively modest resources, making it an attractive opportunity for young people looking to build sustainable income streams.
Participants left the session not only with new knowledge but also with inspiration to explore entrepreneurship and product development.
