American Corner Agbogba Empowers Upcoming Entrepreneurs Through Alumni Expertise, Photography and AI

October 6, 2026 by

For many small businesses and young entrepreneurs, building a strong brand does not always require expensive equipment or large marketing budgets. With the right skills, creativity, and access to digital tools, entrepreneurs can create compelling content and reach new customers.

American Corner Agbogba hosted an Entrepreneurship Series workshop, “How to Build Your Business Brand with Photography and AI,” bringing together vocational students from the Applied Technology Institute to explore practical approaches to digital branding.

The session was facilitated by Gerard Nartey, CEO of Gerard Photography and an International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) alumnus, in collaboration with Gerard Photography and the Ghana TVET Service

The program opened with remarks from Madam Florence Toffa, Director of Mobile Web Ghana, who welcomed participants and highlighted the importance of equipping young people and entrepreneurs with relevant digital and creative skills for today’s economy.

Turning Photography into a Business Tool

The workshop demonstrated how photography can become a powerful tool for entrepreneurship. Participants learned practical techniques in lighting, framing, composition, and product photography, with an emphasis on creating quality images using accessible devices such as smartphones.

Rather than focusing only on professional equipment, the session encouraged participants to think creatively about the resources already available to them.

For small businesses, a well-presented product can make a significant difference on social media, online marketplaces, promotional materials, and other digital platforms.

Exploring AI for Entrepreneurship

The session also introduced participants to the growing role of artificial intelligence in creative business activities.

Participants explored how AI tools can support photo editing and modification, research, content development, and other marketing activities. The focus was on using AI as a practical tool to complement human creativity and help entrepreneurs work more efficiently.

As digital technologies continue to change how businesses communicate with customers, understanding how to use these tools can give young entrepreneurs new ways to promote their products and services.

From Expectations to Practical Skills

Participant feedback showed a clear shift from general expectations to specific, practical learning outcomes.

Before the workshop, 66% of participants described their expectations generally, such as gaining knowledge or improving their skills. Following the session, participants identified specific takeaways in photography and lighting (68%), AI integration (24%), and branding strategy (24%).

The results demonstrated that participants left the workshop with practical knowledge they could apply to their businesses and creative work.

Exchange Alumni Expertise in Action

A key feature of the program was the engagement of an IVLP alumnus as facilitator. Gerard Nartey’s participation demonstrated how U.S. exchange alumni can continue to share knowledge and professional expertise within their communities.

Through American Corner Agbogba, exchange alumni engagement becomes an opportunity to connect professional experience with the needs of young people, entrepreneurs, and emerging creatives.

The workshop therefore went beyond learning about photography or AI. It created a platform for knowledge sharing, entrepreneurship, innovation, and community impact.

Building the Next Generation of Digital Entrepreneurs

As Ghana’s entrepreneurial landscape continues to evolve, young business owners need practical skills that help them adapt to an increasingly digital economy.

By bringing together exchange alumni expertise, entrepreneurship, photography, and emerging AI technologies, American Corner Agbogba continues to provide community members with opportunities to learn, experiment, and develop skills that can support their professional and entrepreneurial goals.

The workshop reinforced a simple but important message: innovation does not always begin with expensive resources. Sometimes, it begins with learning how to use the tools already in your hands more effectively.
