The global demand for handmade jewelry and beadwork is booming. The worldwide market for handmade jewelry was valued at US $151.5 billion in 2022 and is forecast to reach about US $472.5 billion by 2032, growing at a 11.9% compound annual growth rate.
At American Corner, Agbogba, we recently acted on this opportunity with our Entrepreneurship Series: Makerspace : Bead Making for Creativity and Income, led by Victoria Mawuse Geawu, CEO of Hapes Fashion. In this workshop, 53 women from the Ga East directorate including students, store owners, bakers, dressmakers, job seekers, and the Assemblywoman from Abokobi came together to learn how to craft earrings, chains, waist beads, and keyholders.

Before the session began, Madam Florence, the Director of Mobile Web Ghana and American Corner, Agbogba, delivered an inspiring opening remark, emphasizing the relevance of empowering women with practical skills. She highlighted that creative entrepreneurship such as bead-making is more than an artistic venture; it is a bridge to financial independence and sustainable livelihoods.
Economic empowerment is urgent. Providing women with skills and income opportunities leads to financial independence, stronger families, and more resilient communities. Supporting initiatives like bead-making workshops not only preserves cultural artistry but also equips women to participate in a booming global market. Every piece created, every skill learned, contributes to a pathway of opportunity and growth demonstrating that small steps in skill-building can create lasting economic impact.
Many expressed enthusiasm for more sessions, seeing not only creative fulfillment but a real pathway toward economic independence and entrepreneurship
